Day 7: Cupcakes and pizza dough

Day 7 last day using the Bissonnet campus kitchen. We are all going to miss the wonderful kitchen we had used for the past seven days but the time has come to depart and move on. Upon this day we worked on cupcakes. with three groups in the kitchen and each making 2 flavors we ended with an abundance of cupcakes.

The two flavors we used as a base were Red Velvet and Yellow Cake. the batter was made in the morning. The batter was then poured into lined cupcake pans then into the oven. IF by chance you forgot to set a timer for your cupcakes there is still hope. Luckily there is a genius trick to check if cupcakes or any cake is baked and ready to eat. just find a toothpick and insert it straight down into the center of the cake, if it comes out clean then the cake is ready if there are crumbs stuck onto it it would be a good idea to keep them in the oven for a bit longer.

after our lunch break we took some time to prepare pizza dough for the day to come. the pizza dough was fairly simple all the ingredients were combined and then kneaded to form one thoroughly consistent substance. then cut into sixths, placed into a pan and oiled.

The last thing that we did today was decorate the cupcakes with the buttercream we made earlier today. Decorating was also fairly straight forward. Icing was scooped in a piping bag and piped onto the cake and if wanted sprinkles were added. That was what we had done today in our cooking J-term and tomorrow we'll make pizza using the grill.
